Everyone knows Pac Man’s wacka-wacka sounds and familiar pill-chewing gameplay. So when Namco announced a new version of the game for the iPhone and Xbox 360 arcade, no one really batted an eyelid.

Maybe it’s time to re-adjust your thoughts.

While this game is the same gameplay style as you’ll remember, it throws a pile of new challenges at the player as you go along. Like challenging you to eat a certain number of ghosts in a round, or just beat a particular score, etc.

All of this makes the game a bit more exciting to play, and suits it well to the iPhone as each level is quite short and easy to run through.

Controls are handled through a classic-style stick at the bottom of the screen (held in landscape mode) which can be clunky at the best of times, and while learning the game will cause unnecessary deaths. However, it’s a better mechanic then the other option to have tilt-style controls on the iPhone, thank god.

For Christmas it’s worth buying on the iPhone as it has a sale price of 79c, and it looks fantastic so will keep you entertained for a while.
