Tower Bloxx

Tower Bloxx is definitely one of my type of games. Its simple, looks nice and is very easy to pick up and play. It costs 800 points to buy off of the Xbox Live Marketplace but trust me you wont be able to put it down.

There are a couple of different game modes. Time Trial and Quick Play are very self explanatory but all the fun is in the Build City Mode. You are given four little towns to build your towers on. Every tower that you build can hold a certain number of the population. The object of the game is to build as many buildings as possible and get a high population. But it isn’t as simple as it sounds. Building towers is tricky business. This is the best description I can do so…

You are a crane controller. You have a block on the end of the crane and you use the A button to drop the block (part of the building). The idea is to stack them up as high as possible without dropping one or knocking the tower over. As the tower gets higher and higher it starts to sway violently in either direction. So does the crane so you will have to time the drops carefully. If you manage to drop one block perfectly on another, then you get a multiplier bonus. It starts a timer and you get more points for each block you stack from within the time. If you get another perfect positioning, you get more time!

You have a choice of different colored towers. Blue towers can only go ten high but can be placed anywhere. Red towers can be 20 high but can only be beside blue towers. And green towers can be 30 high etc. You get the idea.

I picked up this game one night to try and get a feel for it. It was 2 AM before I turned it off. So addictive! I could get the blue towers easy. Red Towers? No Problem! Then I came across the green towers (30 high) and everything fell apart. I was getting to 27 or 28 and then dropping blocks miles off target. I was addicted though so I kept trying again and again. Finally I got it, then couldn’t even manage a blue tower! Its addictive nature had me hooked within minutes.

The multi-player formats would be great for LAN parties. The screen is split in two and you are against a timer. You have to build the highest tower in the time but its not as straight forward as the main game. You have power-ups that will either hurt your opponents attempt to build a super tower or even reinforce your own tower.

Hours of fun for just 800 points. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys simple arcade games. The mini game player would find this very entertaining, like me :D 4/5!
