Call of Duty: Black Ops

The unsung studio in the Call of Duty franchise is the whipping-boy of Activision, Treyarch. The development studio who hasn’t been treated like trash by their employer (or, they have been but are more willing to please their overlords) has now begun “leaking” information on the next iteration of their Call of Duty efforts. Following on from their efforts, COD3 and COD4: World at War, Treyarch finally make a move away from the over-used set piece of WW2.

Moving into the cold war, Black Ops is due out later in the year.

The trailer could be lying, but it’s safe to say at this point the game looks pretty damn epic, and far more professional looking then previous Treyarch outings. Let’s hope they’ve been given the creative freedom to step out of the now-ruined shadow of Infinity Ward. Certainly the new setting should inspire new gameplay, right? Or will they just use shots from within a spy-plane to mimic the AC-130 scenes from COD4?

Given the time of the trailer release, it’s probably a safe bet to assume some gameplay will appear at E3 in a months time.
