A limited edition too far?
One thing that popped into my YouTube subscriptions inbox this morning, was the official unboxing video for Modern Warfare 2′s “Prestige Edition”. Now while I’m all for normal collector’s editions of games with different disc artwork, or a rarer casing, I’m not sure that developers these days really know what exactly it is that they’re doing when they decide to put out a really crazy option, that is bound to cost around twice as much as the vanilla game itself would, and all it really comes with are a few tacky bits and bobs that you will never actually use, let alone pay much attention to once you’re bored of the game.
It reminds me of the limited editions for Halo 3. I mean who still actually looks at their mini-Spartan helmet these days and thinks that it was worth wasting that much more money on it?
Also, i came to my attention from someone who already watched this video, that the night-vision goggles you get with the Prestige Edition, aren’t actually true NVG’s since they use UV light emitters, which real NVG’s don’t need. Basically you’re getting a UV camera with a mini TV that you can strap to your head… Don’t hide the facts Infinity Ward, just give it to us straight and maybe you’ll get more cred.

I like the use of the words “exclusive” when talking about the steelbook box thing. Like every single other release doesn't get that treatment. Also, NVG's… wow. I think I'll get the standard one. It'll be cheaper to buy the standard game and then the original on PSN/XBLA then buy the super-duper edition!
