PS3 details from gamesCon
The dust has finally settled on all the juicy gossip that Sony have revealed for us on the PS3 (and more) at today’s conference in Germany.
Bullet-points to follow:
- New PS3 Slim launched
- Slim & “fat” PS3′s will run at €299, starting tomorrow
- 32% smaller, 36% lighter and consumes 34% less power
- It’ll be available the first week of September
- Firmware 3.0 available early September too (full details here
Sony also did a bit of stat-wagging, saying the PS3 has sold about 27 million units globally, with a staggering 10 million being in Europe alone. And PS3 owners have been busy, with 60% of them jumping into PSN-enabled games online, and amassing 560 million digital downloads.
Coinciding with our decadent online living in Europe, Sony will roll their video-on-demand service in November too.
On top of this, Sony are going to show off their Wii-bashing motion controller in Japan during the Tokyo Game show later this year, raising hopes of a 2009 Christmas “Wii-beating” launch.

I don't see why people go crazy over this… you'd swear they were releasing a brand new console or something, not just a rehashed version of another.
Anything for Sony to rack up the sales to be even remotely comparable to Microsoft and Nintendo… :/
[...] enjoy, also Kev just posted the shit out of the Ps3 updates – here [...]

Nice. Just followed your twitter link here. Looks great. I don't own any new consoles but this looks like I'll have to buy it!
PSP post to come
I posted a video detailing the firmware update on the main page!
Every generation Sony has produced a slim version. To be more eco-friendly and all of that jazz, this is good press for Sony.
On top of that, they need to drop prices to get competitive with Microsoft. 3 years into the cycle it's time to fight dirty, I suppose…
Best news I've heard in ages, so sick of hearing “I can't afford a PS3″, no excuses now.
