Xbox <3 Dreamcast
SEGA’s last hoorah in the hardware market was a commercial failure, but was years ahead of its time. It pushed online gaming and peripherals for the giant controller among other things before it ceased production under the soon-to-be-Xbox-boss Peter Moore.
However new information has been revealed by former Microsoft exec Sam Furukawa with regard to former SEGA Chairman Isao Okawa. “Before Mr. Okawa passed away he visited Gates several times, to see if it would be possible to add Dreamcast compatibility into the Xbox.” According to Furukawa, Okawa was offering the SEGA assets to Xbox, which would allow Dreamcast owners to buy into Microsofts first games console.
Negotiations fell apart when Microsoft said it didn’t want to allow online compatibility with Dreamcast titles, which was an integral part of most major Dreamcast games at the time.
Interesting to see how the Dreamcast could have lived on, maybe even to this day with it’s soul being kept alive by the body of the Xbox.
