Beyond Black Mesa

Most of us have put Adrian Shepard into the back of our minds. Quite deliberately in some cases. Since the Half Life expansion Opposing Force, the HL world has gone far beyond the realm of Shepard and his band of brothers-esque freedom fight against the evil empire of the Combine. Some film makers have gone on to make a short… Continue »

Alien Swarm free on steam

Valve, over the years, has hired a lot of modders to become full on developers in their studio. The folks behind an Unreal2k4 mod called “Alien Swarm”, for example, were taken in to work on Left4Dead. That same team went on to work on the upcoming Portal 2. Well, while busying themselves on these Valve games, they’ve also taken some… Continue »

Engineer update in TF2

The much-teased update for the engineer in TF2 is incoming. Valve created a neatly designed page to discuss it, too. First up is manually-controlled sentry bots. Then we have upgraded weaponry in the form of the “frontier justice” shotgun which looks very steampunkish, and features a new way of getting crits. No more randomising for crits! More details are available… Continue »

Left 4 Dead 2 – The Passing –...

The long-awaited DLC for Valve’s zombie shooter sequel, Left 4 Dead 2, was released last night for gamers on the PC; having been released that morning for 360 gamers. As such, when I arrived home from college I found the content downloading, and eventually got to play it today after a lengthy download from some obviously over-stressed servers. Obviously the… Continue »

Orange Box 2

In a surprise announcement today, Valve confirmed rumours of the Orange Box 2. In 2007, Valve announced the Orange Box, which featured Half Life 2 and the episodes that had been released up to that point. Furthermore, it contained Portal and the long-awaited sequel to Team Fortress. Today, in 2010, Valve have confirmed Orange Box 2, which will contain a… Continue »

Apple gains gaming market share

With the app store being so huge, and the iPhone and iPod Touch both selling gangbusters, it’s no surprise that a look into NPD figures show that both Sony and Nintendo need to take Apple seriously in the mobile gaming market, especially with the iPad due to hit shelves next month and Steam coming to OS X too. “It’s clear… Continue »

Steam coming to Mac!

We first reported on these rumours here, so it’s worth getting some context on this story. As a long-time Mac user this news blows my mind in ways I couldn’t even fathom, but Valve have finally seen the white, brushed-steel light and decided that in April, us glorious users of OS X will legitimately get to play Source-enabled games, including… Continue »

VALVE to support MAC? What do you

Valve are extremely busy this week, updating Portal with hints to a sequel and as Kev eluded too earlier in the week, are gearing up for some Mac support! If your still not convinced about the OS X support you should probably take a look at the teaser images below. If you still have doubts, then there’s nothing more I… Continue »

Portal update alludes to Episode 3?

Do not get confused by that post title. I am making a bold statement but piecing together the recent update from Portal, it appears we could be looking at the first hints at Half Life 2: Episode 3. The “final” episodic piece in the HL2 saga that was meant to bring monthly episodes, all those years ago. The update officially… Continue »
