5 budget games to get you through the summer

Aug 03, 10 5 budget games to get you through the summer

As you know, the summer sucks for new releases (not counting Starcraft 2) but what happens when you’re bored of collecting badges? Prestiged for the 10th time? Finished the game as renegade and paragon or freed Ferelden for the third time!?

Well, here are 5  games that might just help get you through the summer. The best part? They are mostly dirt cheap.

Feel free to add to the list in the comments section folks!

FarCry 2

FC got its fair share of criticism on release, long load times constant fighting through checkpoints and an unfocused single player were just a few of the things that irked gamers. Now that were in the dry season, a 30 hr game  going for between 7 – €20 is definitely one to reconsider.
The games gun play is great and even if you put ten hrs into its South African sand box you’ll get your moneys worth.Remember this was a Triple A title for Ubisoft when it came out and has the production values to booth.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Everyone played this but not everyone finished it, its the perfect remedy to Modern Warfare over exposure and if Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age left you wanting more then now is the time to dive back into an Oblivion gate and finish your arena battles! You will pick up the GOTY edition for about 20 euro on PS3 and maybe a little more on Xbox.

Brutal Legend

Tim Shaffers love letter to the Rock Gods didn’t do that well on release, its not to every one’s taste but if you click with it, you’ve got yourself a good 20 hrs of gaming(not counting multiplayer!) that will turn into an obsession. With triple A production values an amazing soundtrack and a price tag of usually under 15 bucks its a risk well worth taking.

Infamous

InFamous is a game thats aged exceptionally well. Its 2nd half more then makes up for its slow opening and after playing the tripe that is CrackDown 2, you really get to appreciate its exploration mechanics and awesome power upgrades. Its for PS3 users only and it usually goes for between 15 and 20 squid.

Red Faction:Guerrilla

Most retailers have dozens of copies of this game to give away but don’t be put off. Its DIRT cheap (I got my copy for €11), its got a huge campaign, a very fun multiplayer that still has many folks playing it and its fully destructive environment is a blast to play with. Don’t be a gaming snob! Pick it up, you paid more for that XBLA game you never play!

If you want to add any cheap thrills to the list then please do!

*user suggestions

The Saboteur – €20

Deadspace ( saw it for 9.99 at the weekend!)

Fallout 3 (GOTY edition still holds its value quite well but you should get the bog standard for around the 20 mark)

Mirrors Edge ( under 10 euro in most places, good suggestion)

Section 8 (10 buck and loads of people still playing it!)

Add Mirror’s Edge to the list and Fallout 3 is pretty cheap too.

Deadspace, Godfather 2 and Deathspank should be added too.

  3. THE SABOTEUR!!! Way underrated game for less than $20, you get a long, interesting campaign with all the nazi’s you could ever stab in the neck. Great visual style and music make the experience quite unique. Pick it up.
