Shoryuken 2.0
Over the past year Shoryuken.ie has racked up thousands upon thousands of hits, comments and just about 1,000 posts. We were nominated for a blog award last year, and shortlisted this year. We’ve had contact from Irish radio outlets and broke news stories no one else did. On top of that we’ve brought you countless reviews, previews and news tidd-bits from around the internets. It’s tough to run a games site, but I like to think we make it look easy, and sexy, too.

Ireland has a very strange, crowded market with games sites but I think the calibre of writing skill and technical gaming know-how of the various writers here sets us above the rest, and I know plenty of you come here for a daily dose of news and critical commentary on the industry and the software it gives us.
So, moving forward as we get ready to celebrate a year in existence, what’s in the pipeline? Well, first and foremost, more of the same. We’ve built a good solid readership over the year, and a few of you regularly comment on our articles (the more who comment the better, though… if you keep emailing me for a forum it’s useless until we have plentiful threads!). We were promising a podcast, and we hope to do extra media stuff this year for you all. How that turns out we’ll have to see, though.
Working as well as the current one. Yes, that is todays posts. Yes, it is LIVE, but in a secret location 
Biggest of all is a planned revamp of the site design. What we have is lovely, but it could be better. Maybe not more functional, but it’s time to move away from somewhat plain and into sexy. But classy. Too many sites look gaudy and awful, no more so then on Irish blogs (not just gaming ones, mind you). The images attached to this post are a sneak preview. So, what do we think?

Bit above of yourself there kevin, good to see that modesty is alive and well with you on your perfectly formed site…Ahem… People who go around blowing their own trumpets will one day find that they are the only one listening to their music, and no matter how bad it is, they will always think its getting better…even when it was never good in the first place

If you don’t think we’re “that good in the first place” why not go do better, rather then commenting here with a link to a site with no content. I’m not sure why you’re commenting if you don’t like shoryuken in the first place mate.
Have to agree with John, the above just comes across as self-indulgent. If you had mentioned the new look and even showed a real excitment for it, instead of using false excitment as a platform for your own ego – i wouldn’t have commented

who is this muppet? the post isnt self indulgent or ego boosting. it just says the site is doing well and wants to do well in future as well as change the design.like twhr says, who are you representing because youre deffo not posting on your own back
actually similar to bomber i watch this site, like it too but this post bugged me. It’s my opinion, is it not allowed?
@TWHRBannana. You coming out and saying you don’t like the post is 100% cool but douche grenade up there seems to have a motive behind his post and it’s a little uncalled for.
Lads, the post says the site is good at what it does – and better then a lot of other sites out there. It’s not an attack on any one, nor is it an ego boost. Not once do I ever claim shoryuken as MINE, or herald it as a triumph on my part. In fairness my contribution is minimal compared to the other lads. I’m happy to pay the bills to keep this place running.
I don’t think it gets carried away with the self-praising bull at all. The whole point is to say last year was good, next year will be better and a new design is incoming. Nothing hostile should come from that
I think I have commented here twice ever. And today I’m doubling my tally. Fuck this guy. He obviously has an agenda and pushing his UNIQUELY named site “IGN” which has nothing but a badly photoshopped image on it. This is by far the best Irish gamesite and has done well for only being open a year. It actually has proper news, always updated and reviews/previews and so on are always top drawer stuff. Keep it up guys.

@DARTH: Yes, that seems to be a bit of a niggling issue the site almost always has. I’ve tried kicking Kevin to get it to work and while it did work before, it broke again.
However, Google Reader has no problem with the RSS being as broken as it is, maybe give that a shot?
