Happy fifth birthday
It’s not often we get to celebrate birthdays in the games world. Particially because 5 years after a slightly rocky launch of a game franchise established to rival the likes of Halo, you tend to forget the game. However, our beloved Dutch friends over at Guerilla Games are keen to remind us of the humble beginnings of their little baby, Killzone.
On Thursday, Guerilla are going to celebrate with as much Heineken and smoutebollen as they can cram into their likely stoned faces. But despite the red eyes and nausia, they’re going to provide us Killzone 2 PSNers with some fun, too!
Looking back at Killzone 1
Later this week on Killzone.com, Seb “Motherh” Downie and Eric Botjes are going to play through the first Killzone game for you. They’ll be commenting on our favorite sections and wallowing in beer-induced nostalgia.Killzone 2 retro tournament
This weekend (November 27-30) Guerrilla will host a Killzone 2 retro tournament, using only the Beach Head and Southern Hills maps from the second DLC pack. And there’s more to be gained than valor alone, because…Double XP Weekend returns
…the tournament will take place during a Double XP Weekend! Just like last time, any game created in the weekend of November 27-30 will yield extra XP to help you boost your ranking.Killzone 1 and 2 side-by-side
Finally, Killzone.com editor Victor Zuylen will compare various features of Killzone 2 with its predecessor next week, illustrating exactly how far we’ve come since the first Killzone game was released.
Excellent weekend for those who loved the original, the second or even the PSP game. Or those like me who need a break from MW2… and who desperately need that double XP to move up to the last available online rank!

ah sure we all loved it really! wasnt as bad as it was touted to be. i remember it got 9/10 from opm2 at the time and thought it was fair. hype machine was out of control because of the halo killer tag
Loved Killzone1. Was even in a clan, before there was even clan support in the game! The DLC has gone cheap on PSN now too, so no excuses!
A modern classic. I shall be ranking the hell out of KZ2 this weekend.
Its mad that the ''Halo Beater'' has become nearly a cult game online. With people either loving it or hating it. I'm defo in the love catagory nothing better then a 40 min game on Pyruss Rise!
Have to say I was one of the few who loved the original, too. I spent ages running around town trying to find a network adapter when it came out as I had a fat PS2.
The PSP game was stunning, too. Rock hard, but great none the less!
KZ2 really is a halo killer this generation. Halo's awfully bland story, shite graphics and repetitive gameplay (the famous “30 seconds” of repeated fun is tired and lazy, folks) was bent over and dominated by Killzone.
I still think they should work on a patch online to make the controls a bit sleeker to make it more accessible to more people. It's scary for new people!
Killzone liberation was fantastic, i wish i hadn't stopped playing it!.
I must confess that KZ slipped past my radar, there was just too many FPS#s on the PS2, I think the last one I played was “Black”
good choice. black was the best fps of last generation.
surprised the devs never made a second one
Yeah it started well but it got a bit repetitive later on. Still worth picking up though if your an FPS fan.
There have been rumour of a sequel for a while now, the devs have denied as they often do. It's meant to be called Black: Second Mission and to come out on 360/PC/PS3, but who knows if/when that will happen
