Media Molecule acquired by Sony
Sony have gone ahead and bought out their favourite Sackboy developers. Yep, the former-Lionhead employees who left to make their own franchise have signed a deal to go under the rather large wing of Sony.
What does this mean? Well, for the most part nothing. MM had never expressed much interest in developing for other platforms to begin with, and LBP is a Sony-owned franchise anyway. What could be interesting is the fact that Sony went as far as to buy the developers out. Sony have a history of cuddling up to its developers, but not necessarily buying them (like Microsoft tend to do). This could mean MM have something else in the offing that Sony want to keep on their platforms.
The Media Molecule site quotes, “After a whirlwind romance, and one beautiful child together, we are immensely excited to announce our engagement to our long term best friend and life partner, Sony Computer Entertainment!”
Congrats on the marriage, folks!

This is great news, while the developer doesn’t have a huge track record, I think LBP was a stunning first performance on the PS3, and now with SCE backing it should help them be even more creative for the next game.
