Microsoft settle out of court with PalTalk
Microsoft ended a lawsuit with communication company, PalTalk, over patent infringement by settling out of court. The lawsuit was in regard to communications technology used in Xbox Live and Halo. Paltalk started the lawsuit in March for the tidy sum of $90 Million. Microsoft met with the company and intended to use the companies software but in the end “decided to go in a different direction” and turned PalTalk down. This is supposidly what spawned the lawsuit. Microsoft have admitted meeting with the company but have always denied the accusation that they infringed on any patents.
Well this could be one of two things. Either Microsoft were trying to get rid of the lawsuit by paying off PalTalk or maybe there is some truth to their claim. Either way I seriously doubt the company got the $90 Million they originally wanted. But I suppose a win is a win in these recessionary times. A Microsoft spokesperson said that it was an “amicable agreement” which would confirm it was significantly less than what PalTalk wanted.
i think paltalk are in trouble in america now because of some creepy stalker rapist guy targeting kids/women through the service. timely for microsoft i'd say
