Peter Molyneux reckons Natal will be a game changer
Despite my awfully crass headline, Peter Molyneux really does think Natal will be big, and good. Of course he does, he’s the head of Microsoft’s operations in Europe. And the creator of Fable. Heck, some of his former employees went off and made LittleBigPlanet! When he speaks, we listen. Too often though, he speaks in a world where hyperbole is common practice. Sure he loves his products, but sometimes he says silly things.
Today is another example of that. “If you’re thinking that Natal is going to give you another version of an FPS, you’re just not thinking broadly enough,” Molyneux told Gamereactor. “After all, it was the invention of the mouse that gave us computing as it is today — not the invention of the microprocessor. The mouse was the real revolution of the PC — not the Intel processor. And who’s to say Natal couldn’t end up creating something you and I can’t even imagine now. It forces us to approach technology in a completely different way. Before the mouse, we only had the keyboard.”
Of course he’s forgetting that with the mouse came whole new UI features. Touchpads have new UI features, too. Natal? Nah. You can’t use your dashboard with it – just interface with increasingly less interesting games! Natal will not be the same revolutionary step as the mouse Peter, I’m sorry to inform you.
