SEGA to launch new console…not quite “Next Gen” though, think Wii/MegaDrive
So today there are 3 players in the current console wars, but back in the 90′s it was SEGA and Nintendo who were slugging it out to be number 1.
Unlike today it was a very rare thing for someone to have both consoles so you truly had to pick your side. I was with SEGA on this one, their consoles perhaps didnt have the best graphics but the games were spectacular, many ports of the classic arcades you knew and loved.
So I read on [pocket-link] that SEGA are to produce a new console, I got very excited until I realised it’s not quite the PS3/360 beater I was hoping for.
It’s called the SEGA Zone, it comes with classic titles like Alex Kidd, Sonic, Golden Axe etc, 16 of the games included are to be motion controlled. System includes 2 wireless remote controllers.
The price is going to be around £50 (GBP) so not too bad, but the bad news is you can’t yet add *new* games to it, so it runs quite like those many plug into tv consoles you see, with the exception that it will accept the old catridges.
Due out in the summer in the UK.
Interesting. Could be the first step to them coming back into the market, even if it's not a nod towards the ps3/360, I'd welcome some new titles from Sega, even if they're oldschoolers.
That's my hope, perhaps SEGA saw that Nintendo had success with a technological cheap console, they might be tempted to have a go at the next generation, I'd more than welcome it.
£50 seems not bad price either, for people who only like Wii sports this could be a cheaper alternative.
