Shuhei Yoshida moves on natal & wii

Shuhei Yoshida, head of SCE today commented on the Playstation Move’s competition – Nintendo Wii and Microsoft’s Natal.

“Well, we don’t know about Natal yet, so all we can say from watching in a general sense how it plays is that we’ve been familiar with the controller-less system since the days of the EyeToy.” he said. “That’s very accessible, so a two-year-old to an 80-year-old lady can play games. But we also know the limitations of making games without a controller. So I’m very curious as to how Microsoft will solve that issue.”

“Compared to Wii and Wii MotionPlus, the biggest advantage is precision, not only movement but 3D spatial recognition and orientation. We can incorporate very subtle movement into games.” he added, later concluding: “That’s not possible with the Wii system.”

Wii MotionPlus has been out for some time now and sold quite well for Nintendo, but Natal is more of a gamble since it’s entirely new and has, in pre-release testing proved to be either brilliant or flawed, depending often on who’s playing it. Sony at least with their demo’s have been pandering to their own audience, showing off stuff with LittleBigPlanet and SOCOM to sell the system.

  1. I wonder what IP’s they’ll incorporate with this peripheral. They’d need at least 1 heavy hitter to avoid it steering into the realms of ”Singstar” and ”Buzz” accesories.
If it’s just party games, then meh…

  2. Well they’ve already shown SOCOM and LBP so they are going after big hitters already. To be honest they’ll be doing well if third parties get on board. Wii has crap third party support and very few have expressed any interest in Natal..

  3. Not seen anything yet that would make me buy Move, but hopefully my mind will be changed in the future. A game like ratchet and clank could be great fun with Move in regards to using the weapons.

  4. I like your awesome site theme. Do You provide service?
