‘The new Sun sets on Helghan’

After meeting the enemy face to face Colonel Templar has just enough fight left in him to pile drive the New Sun into the Helghan defense grid. The music, the visuals and the fantastic sense of immersion within the conflict all come together for this fantastic scene.

God of War 2 Ending: Do not watch if you don’t want to be spoiled! Not only do we get a savage finale, we get one of the biggest teases in gaming history. What followed in the next game was never going to be good enough.

Starcraft2 ‘The Betrayal: This is a new one and probably the one that inspired my writing of this list. Again I wont spoil in the text. All I will say is ‘its done’

FFVII ‘ The Weapons’ : You could fill this list with MGS and Final Fantasy cut scenes but that wouldn’t be as interesting as trying to think of ones that arnt in the two most epic series in gaming. To emit them completely would be a crime. There are better cut scenes in FF7 but none give you the sense of scale that this one does. The first time I played the game I thought this was the ending! The release of the planets defense system is one of those scenes that makes you think ‘ holy crap, this game is huge’

Halo 2 ‘ Permission to give the covenant back their bomb’ This is the reason a generic super soldier has becoming one of gaming’s biggest icons. Master Chief and Cortana take a look outside in what is the definition of Epic.

5  Uncharted 2 opening: The whole of Uncharted 2 could be shown in the below video; Epic in that Sunday evening adventure movie kind of way Nathan Drake 2nd outing on the PS3 features one of the most stunning opening of recent years and it just gets better from there.

Gears of War  ’Ramm’s meets Kim’ : The first time I saw this scene my jaw dropped out of my face. The emotional punch thats packed in that close up of Kim and Ramm’s face is just so freaking awesome.

FFX ending: Wont spoil it. In fact if you haven’t played through the whole game then you probably wont get why this ending to one of the best Final Fantasy stories ever is just so emotionally charged. Looking back now it does seem a little corn balled but even so it deserves its place here.

MGS4 Snake vs Liquid

Maybe it’s the seagulls in the background mixed with the trumpets or maybe it’s the fact that these two icon’s have been battling across many gamers collective childhoods, whatever the reason, this fight is my favorite MGS cut scene of all time. Lots of folks will disagree: What about Raiden vs Vamp? The ending of Snake Eater? The Ninja, Liquid, Snake battle at the end of MGS1? There all good too people! For me though? This is the pinnacle.
