Xbox 360 dashboard ads

Unfortunately for Xbox Live Gold members (who fork out hard earned cashola for their online experiences once a year/3months) it appears some users have spotted some commercial advertisements on their dashboards. Josh Lovison of IPG (a digital media company) told Kotaku:

Microsoft’s entire move to the New Xbox Experience may have been partly influenced by the desire/need for advertising, as the “windows” that all NXE content is displayed in, from videos to demos to Xbox Live Arcade titles, “just so happen to be IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau) standard sizes”. Meaning a Flash/Silverlight ad from a website can be dropped directly onto the 360 dashboard.

I haven’t spotted anything myself just yet but this could be in America-only at the moment. It’s a strange one to push advertising on Gold members when Playstation Network is free and is also ad-free. Microsoft have yet to issue any kind of response to the internet fodder regarding this. We’ll keep you updated here.

  1. It's definitely US-only for the moment, seeing as how I haven't had to worry about any ads appearing on my Dashboard.
