Not a sign of Uncharted 2 in the charts this week, Parents if you are buying a game for you’re kids this Xmas don’t get them Need for Speed:Shift get them Uncharted 2. I promise you that the level of violence in the game will do less damage to their Psyche then that horrible commercialized chav simulator will.

Assassins creed 2 hit with good reviews but still didn’t have the prowess to knock the daddy of the top spot. Great to see Dragon Age in the top 20 as it is a QUALITY game. I would review it but to be honest its going to be mid 2010 before I even finish it!

This list has been aloof for the last couple of weeks, maybe its the embarrassment of the piss poor performance on live of ODST or maybe it something innocent like the Major was too busy playing Uncharted 2……either way here it is.

SouthPark LGTDP seems to a bit of a surprise hit with even 1 star Kev giving it a good review! Borderlands sneaks in to the top ten but I’m still undecided on which version to pick up. Either way expect my review sometime this week or early next. Surprisingly enough Halo 3 takes the top spot even 2 weeks before MW2!

Uncharted 2 non review

Helicopters, those pesky machines are commonly used as cannon fodder in action games; you grab an RPG wait for the break in the pattern and boom, that’s that. Not so in U2, the Nepal levels in Among Thieves have probably the best executed video game set pieces this generation and easily rival some of the best you’ve seen from Hollywood over the years. It’d pain me to spoil any moments from this title so I won’t but what I will do is give you a run down of some of things that are go going to make this Game of the Year 2009.

It actualy looks better in game

A massive part of what makes Uncharted 2 a roaring achievement is its main character. Nathan Drake is probably the best example of a fully rounded character in video game history.. Nate isn’t some empty avatar for you to inhabit, you don’t make any choices for him, you’re just along for the ride whether you like it or not. Brought to life using a combination of stunning graphical wizardry and the vocals chords of the wonderfully talented Nolan North, Drake is the most likeable and inoffensive everyman in video games today. From the simply out of this world opening sequence, all the way to end of the title your bond with Nate grows to the point where you really start caring about what happens to him and his friends. His motives are real and never contrived, and Nate is very rarely pushed into a situation that doesn’t have something to do with the plot. While this kind of quality control is seen in film all the time it feels like a breath of fresh air in this cookie cutter world of video game sequels.

It would be madness not mention how beautiful the game looks; the mountain town scene has been mentioned by other reviewers but my favourite moment is a snow covered fire fight among the remains of a train. Snow and mud bundles around Nates dirty jeans while he hold’s his gun in one hand and his guts in the other. As the fire fight continues the snow continues to pepper around Drakes hair and clothing turning red around his waste. It’s a beautiful fire fight but it’s only a personnel highlight there are many many more moments of truly striking scenery.

I haven’t played any of U2’s multiplayer component because (for me at least) it’s broken. If I do manage to get into a game my character freezes in the middle of a shoot out or worse just before I’m about to clock someone so I can’t comment on it yet, but from a single player experience you would be mad to own a Ps3 and not at the very least be asking your partner to pick it up for you this xmas. €44.99 is a small price to pay considering the quality on offer here, congratulations Naughty Dog its time to come play with the big boys.

Uncharted 2 euro TV Spot

Seriously I’m screaming inside waiting for this title. To make things worse I’m in the middle of house hunting so the chances of me getting an 12 hour+ gaming session with it are going to be slim. Making things worse I couldn’t get the beta because I was too busy playing Battlefield Bad Company…….oh wait that was mostly my own fault.

Anyway Sony have thrown together a lovely TV Spot for Nathan and friends so we mite as well give them the courtesy of watching it.

Yes this is a video of Nathan Drake walking through a blue cave, excited? Well you should be because it looks great, watch the transition between cut scene and in game action, cant see it? That’s because this is one of the best looking games I have ever seen.

I’m getting stomach cramps of excitement in anticipation for this title! Having played some of the Multiplayer Beta at the weekend, I’m sure most of us can agree its a contender and with reviewers falling over themselves to praise it, this game is going to have to burn a puppy in public not to get GOTY.

That is unless Modern Warfare 2 can stand up to the hype an deliver the kind of gameplay evolution Naughty Dog have.

Good balance between action & platforming puzzles, apparently

Someone who lives the e-limelight, Robert Bowling (fourzerotwo to me and you), got a lucky shot to play upcoming PS3-exclusive Singstar: Motown. Oh, wait, no, he got to play Uncharted 2…. Singstar is already out.

Coming from the Infinity Ward community manager’s twitter account, Bowling wrote: “Oh man, @arne360 let me get some time on #UNCHARTED2 singleplayer. Unbelievable! Controls are so smooth. Seriously, you MUST buy this game!”

This comes very soon after some Bungie folk were seen playing the game, and apparently enjoying it.

Could Uncharted 2 be Sony’s “Halo”, adored by the industry and fans alike? Well, not too long to find out now. It’s out October 16th over here.

Uncharted 2 Multiplayer Beta Live in Europe early!

Evan Wells from Naughty Dog has posted a link to a YouTube video showing people playing the MP demo early. Apparently news to him, Evan then went and tried to download it himself and hey presto he was in and playing.

Its only available to people who got the special redeem codes from pre ordering the game so don’t get too excited yet if you haven’t pre ordered.

Would love to hear some reports if you have them!
