Anyone who remembers Windows Vista and 7 knows Microsoft have tried desperately to unify the gaming experience on Windows versus Xbox before gaming catches up on other platforms (hint: Mac). Vista was an unmitigated disaster, but did have some wins in that communication across Xbox Live was brought in under the Windows Live monicker.

7 followed suit and even had a more substantial rating system so your gaming experience could be measured on various PCs (a hangover from previous Windows versions, but a better measurement).

For Windows 8, Microsoft is bringing the full Xbox Live experience (kind of) to the PC.

Larry Hryb commented, “Xbox Live brings your games, music, movies, and TV shows to your favourite Microsoft and Windows devices. Bringing Xbox Live to Windows 8 is part of our vision to bring you all the entertainment you want, shared with the people you care about, made easy.

“At Build we are showing that it is easy for developers to create games for Windows 8 that take advantage of the power of Xbox Live,” he added. “We have much more detail to share about the capabilities of Xbox Live on Windows and look forward to the opportunity to do so in the near future.”

Furthermore, Microsoft have given a commitment that Xbox Live games that exist now on the console will come to PC!

This week’s Xbox Live deal of the week sees the DLC for Valve’s zombie shooter Left 4 Dead – Crash Course – available for 20% off, at 320 Microsoft Points (€4) for Xbox Live Gold members until the end of the week.

That is one ugly lad... And the zombie's not too pretty either!

As with all Xbox Live deals, it is only available to Gold subscribers and not to Silver accounts. To be honest, it’s not even worth it anyway, seeing as the PC version has had the update for free for ages now. However, it does add another 250 Gamerscore to the game with an extra ten achievements, so those of you who whore your Gamerscore would love this deal.

It makes me wonder what will happen when the Left 4 Dead 1 version of the Passing DLC comes out? How much money will MS try to scrounge from gamers?

There are however times when only the classics will do the job. Microsoft, you have failed.

Now – Hard, slippery and sticky as this fail is, I can’t help but think that I should be worried.

If Larry Hryb Microsoft’s Xbox Live director can get his acc hacked then what hope do we have? How did they do it? Did someone call up the help desk and get his acc PW changed? If so then someone is getting fired. If not, then its even more worrying.

Larry told Kotaku that he now has control of his Acc, well thats something I guess.

Xbox Live user ‘ItzLupo’ has caused a bit of a storm online this weekend with what he calls evidence of Xbox Live Moderator ”The Pro” dropping bans for nothing more then sheets and giggles. The Video speaks for itself ,well, kinda.

Microsoft claim that the video is heavily edited, cleverly omitting Lupo’s tirade of abuse directed at the pro. While Lupo admits the audio is a little choppy he claims its the quality of his editing suite and not foul play that causes it.

The Pro’s boss Stephen Toulouse commented on his Twitter : “Yes I’ve seen the heavily edited video of The Pro,the audio is clearly re-cut to omit the threats and ToU (Terms of Use) violations” made towards the moderator.”

Lupo’s gives his side of the story in the video below and after watching its hard to side with anyone, The Pro is either really angry for no reason or Lupo ain’t showing us the full story. It doesn’t really excuse the fact that ‘The Pro’ is clearly going off on one. Not the most professional display ever but we all know the kind of stuff you hear on Xbox Live.

Two new tracks have been added as part of the Nürburgring Grand Prix Circuit Track Pack, and are available on LIVE right now for 400 Microsoft Points. Turn 10′s record of DLC has been quite high, so let’s hope this DLC continues on form.

After April 15th you will no longer be able to play Halo 2, Counter Strike or any original Xbox game over xbox live. Microsoft previously stated the old infrastructure was responsible for some of today’s Live’s idiosyncrasies, the 100 friend cap being one of them.

Kotaku reported the following statement from Marc Whitten:
Dear Xbox LIVE Members,
On April 15 we will discontinue the Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox consoles and games, including Xbox v1 games playable on Xbox 360 and Xbox Originals. I want to start by saying this isn’t a decision we made lightly, but after careful consideration, it is clear this will provide the greatest benefit to the Xbox LIVE community.
Seven years ago we laid out our vision for the connected console when we launched Xbox LIVE. We believed then that the power of the Internet to connect people would revolutionize living room entertainment. It started with amazing multiplayer games, and we’ve since seen that bet pay off again and again with the launches of Xbox 360, Marketplace, Netflix and powerful social features like Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm. None of this would have been possible without the success of LIVE as a multiplayer gaming network.
There’s no greater example of the power of the Xbox LIVE community than the “Halo” franchise. “Halo 2″ has had an amazing run on LIVE, with a dedicated community more than five years after launch and well into the next generation of consoles. It has fundamentally changed the way we play video games. And while it’s difficult to see that run come to an end, the “Halo” franchise continues to act as the benchmark for multiplayer gaming in this generation, with “Halo 3,” “Halo 3: ODST” and soon “Halo: Reach” on Xbox 360.
Your Xbox LIVE community has grown to 23 million strong. And as we look down the road, we’ll continue to evolve the service with features and experiences that harness the full power of Xbox 360. To reach our aspiration, we need to make changes to the service that are incompatible with our original Xbox v1 games. We will contact the Xbox LIVE members directly impacted by this change and if this includes you, I encourage you to check your LIVE messages and associated e-mail account over the coming weeks for more details and opportunities. We view you as a partner in this process.
We’ll share more details soon, but in the meantime I want to assure you that the best is yet to come for Xbox LIVE. I believe we’ll look back on 2010 as a landmark year in gaming and home entertainment, and I couldn’t be more excited about what we have in store with “Project Natal” and LIVE. The LIVE community is the driving force behind everything we do, and it’s because of the community that ground-breaking experiences on Xbox continue to be possible.
See you on LIVE,
